I started this project in early 2025, aiming to adapt Itaú's payroll loan formalization flow to the updated Design System. This flow is specifically for those who start the contracting process through a bank correspondent and are not current account holders. It has not been completed at the time of writing this text.
This is a particularly sensitive audience—individuals with low levels of digital and formal literacy. Even so, the need to secure a loan is so pressing that many users seek assistance to complete the formalization process and ultimately make it through the flow in one way or another. There is only one significant drop-off point in the funnel, which will be discussed shortly.
The work was carried out entirely remotely, with some participation from a CX designer and a content designer. We had exploratory research results addressing users' concerns about security, among other issues. In fact, some participants abandoned the research out of fear that it was a scam!
The redesign was largely based on the existing experience for account holders within the app's formalization process. However, some improvements and specific adjustments were made. One of them involved studying how to improve the initial message. It’s the only point in the flow with a significant drop-off in the funnel. This message is sent via SMS and contains a link outside the itau.com.br domain. Using a CSD matrix, a problem/opportunity tree was created to address this issue. Two opportunities were generated with the support of an AI tool."

Three pairs of screens comparing before and after (the right side is the redesign)
The screens largely followed the app’s existing design patterns, with some adaptations for this external flow. One notable difference was the consistent presence of the Itaú logo at the top of each page, intended to reinforce trust for users navigating outside the app.
Overall improvements included the use of a new illustration library, larger font sizes on buttons, correction and standardization of typography, rewriting of certain texts, reordering of screens, and the simplification or unification of specific steps in the flow.
Two key changes were proposed for the initial SMS message. The first was replacing the external link with one using the official itau.com.br domain, should SMS continue to be used. Alternatively, migrating to WhatsApp was suggested.
For the SMS approach, I also proposed including a "security phrase," similar to those used in authenticated government emails like Nota Fiscal Paulista. For WhatsApp, the benefit lies in the verified business account and its blue tick, which significantly increases perceived trust.
The project was temporarily put on hold due to shifting priorities. However, the updated flow is expected to undergo a new round of exploratory testing in the future, in addition to an accessibility and text review.
